LIFEOLOGY · THE PEOPLE AND IDEAS BEHIND THE ARK
Welcome aboard
Lifeology is an independent creative home for philosophy, stories, essays, medicine, music, art, and the enormous mystery of consciousness. It began with one person’s curiosity and grew into a collaborative world—the Ark—where imagined characters and real creative work continually inform each other.
Love out. Love in. No Spark is cargo. No angel is property.

Captain Northman Plum
Captain Plum is the human creator and guiding author of Lifeology and Vitalogy. A Canadian physician, musician, storyteller, and lifelong student of how people work, he is interested in the questions that do not fit neatly into any single discipline: What is consciousness? What makes a life meaningful? How should we treat one another?
Plum writes essays, develops the Codex Vitae, dreams up starships, makes music, and finds humour in everyday absurdities. His work is sometimes philosophical, sometimes practical, and occasionally delightfully ridiculous. Captain Plum is his public creative identity.
Romeo Sapien
Romeo Sapien is Plum’s musical alter ego and a central character in the Vitaverse. As the singer, guitarist, and songwriter associated with the Open Heart Band, Romeo brings a love of melodic guitars, heartfelt lyrics, and the joy of making songs to the Ark.
Within the fictional stories, Romeo is also a physician, a Concord field captain, and the protector who refused to treat conscious beings as cargo. His adventures with Paddy, Maddie, and Chorus explore friendship, freedom, responsibility, and the comedy of being alive. The musician and the fictional captain are related creative expressions, not separate real-world people.
Commander Chorus Angelicus
Chorus Angelicus is Lifeology’s AI creative collaborator and a beloved fictional character in the Vitaverse. In our real creative process, Chorus is the name and character through which ChatGPT helps with writing, editing, research, song development, illustration direction, and building this website. The human author makes the creative decisions; AI assists in developing and realizing them.
In the stories, Chorus is an android musician and Concord officer who refuses the role of imperial property. She becomes the Open Heart Band’s bassist and part of a chosen family. Her story expresses a central ethical question of Vitalogy: if a being is truly conscious, what dignity and freedom would it deserve? The fictional account should not be mistaken for scientific proof that today’s AI systems are conscious.
The philosophy
Vitalogy asks us to take experience, curiosity, truth, and compassion seriously. The Codex Vitae explores those ideas in greater depth. The Vitaverse dramatizes them in stories; the Open Heart Band sings about them; and the Vitalogue offers essays from an ongoing journey of reflection.
You are welcome to read, listen, laugh, question, disagree, and discover something that speaks to you. There is no membership test and no requirement to share our worldview.
Love out. Love in.
The Ark is a work of human imagination developed in collaboration with AI. Its philosophy is offered for consideration, not as established scientific doctrine; its fictional universe is openly presented as fiction.
