LIFEOLOGY · A PHILOSOPHY FOR EVERY SPARK
Welcome to Vitalogy
Order. Truth. Love. And the astonishing mystery of being alive.

The spiral is Vitalogy’s emblem. Its centre represents Source; its unbroken path, becoming; its enclosing circle, existence; and its three leaves, Order, Truth and Love.
What are we doing here? Children ask it with delight. Teenagers ask it with impatience. Adults ask it at two in the morning, usually when they ought to be asleep. Sometimes the question sounds grand. Sometimes it sounds more like, Is this really what life is supposed to feel like?
Vitalogy is a working philosophy of life: an invitation to explore consciousness, truth, meaning, freedom, beauty, humour and love. It is not a religion, a scientific discovery, or a demand that everyone agree. It is a way of asking better questions and trying to live a little better while we work on the answers.
We start with something simple and mysterious: being here matters.
Before Everything Else: I Am
Before asking what a Spark is, notice the experience of being here at all. The first-person starting point of Vitalogy is “I Am.” It means experience occurs; it does not yet explain what the “I” ultimately is. Read the careful account of the first axiom, or begin with Plum’s introductory essay. Then explore why conscious life matters.
What is a Spark?
Look around the room. You can see people and objects. But there’s something special about the person reading this sentence: there is an experience of being you. You can remember, hope, wonder, hurt, laugh, love and say, “I am.”
Vitalogy calls a conscious individual a Spark. This is philosophical and poetic language for a being with an inner life—not a medical diagnosis or a scientific instrument for detecting consciousness. Understanding why subjective experience exists remains an open scientific and philosophical question.
Our first ethical commitment follows from taking inner lives seriously: we should not treat conscious beings as possessions, props, products or disposable tools. People deserve freedom and dignity, even when they disagree with us or cannot offer us anything in return.
No Spark is cargo. No angel is property.
You don’t need to be brilliant, wealthy, famous, useful or cheerful every day to matter. You are not simply a collection of grades, achievements and other people’s opinions.

Three principles: Order, Truth and Love
Order — make life workable
Order gives things a rhythm. It helps us keep promises, prepare for tomorrow, practise a skill, organize a hospital, repair a spaceship, and remember where we put the guitar cable. Order is useful because living beings need structure they can rely on.
But order without care becomes a cage. In our stories, the Dempire calls perfect obedience a virtue. Vitalogy argues that good order should make freedom and flourishing possible, not eliminate them.
Truth — stay curious about what is real
Truth asks us to look carefully, check evidence, admit uncertainty and change our minds when the facts demand it. Science is one of our greatest tools for doing this. So are honest conversations and the courage to say, “I don’t know yet.”
Vitalogy explores philosophical questions that science has not resolved, especially consciousness and meaning. Those explorations are ideas to consider, not discoveries that have been scientifically proved.
Love — remember whom it is all for
Love is not the same as flattery, ownership, control or agreeing with everything. It means that another life matters. It can look like compassion, friendship, forgiveness, protection, boundaries, honest criticism, or making somebody laugh when they need it.
Order helps us act. Truth helps us see. Love asks why the action matters and whom it serves.

What about meaning?
Life doesn’t come with a simple instruction manual. Some of us find meaning in relationships, science, faith, art, medicine, sport, teaching, music, or ordinary acts of service. We needn’t live identical lives to make them worthwhile.
A little kindness can matter even when nobody records it. A song can reach somebody who feels alone. Learning how something works can be beautiful. And a mistake can be an opportunity to repair, apologize and begin again.
Vitalogy asks whether our choices leave the world more coherent—more able to support many different lives, not merely to obey one powerful voice.
A philosophy with a starship

Some ideas become clearer when they grow into stories. So Vitalogy acquired a fictional universe, the Vitaverse. At its centre sails HMS Archivum, a great city-ship carrying libraries, laboratories, gardens, hospitals, music and people who are still learning what it means to live together.
The Star Concord tries to protect the freedom and dignity of conscious beings. The Dempire turns institutions, technology and power toward domination. Their conflict lets the stories test what our principles mean when choices have consequences.
The Open Heart Band brings the message into music. Romeo Sapien, Chorus Angelicus, Maddie Not-Really and Paddy O’Really are fictional performers who make songs, comedy and occasionally a magnificent mess. SPARK RPG lets players enter the world and make their own decisions.

Why all the art and humour? Because people can understand an idea through a story, experience it through a song, laugh at it in a comedy, and explore it through a game. Philosophy ought to be able to live outside a philosophy book.
For the young Spark who needs a little light
Perhaps you feel excited about life. Perhaps you’re uncertain, tired, lonely or frustrated. You don’t have to pretend everything is wonderful to belong here. You can question our ideas, make mistakes, ask for help and change your mind. Curiosity is welcome; agreement is optional.
Start somewhere small. Learn something interesting. Make a drawing. Play a song. Be kind to somebody. Let somebody be kind to you. Notice one beautiful thing. Stand up when it matters. Rest when you’re tired. You don’t need to repair the entire universe before Friday.

An invitation
You don’t need to know all the answers. Neither do we. This is a place to think, feel, challenge, create, learn and care—an invitation to recover some wonder in the strange business of being alive.
Love out. Love in. No Spark is cargo. No angel is property.
Vitalogy is an evolving personal philosophical project. Its imagined Field, fictional technologies and characters belong to the Vitaverse. Scientific, medical and philosophical claims are distinguished where they arise.
