The September Adventures
Four rescued Sparks. One starship. Approximately a thousand opportunities to embarrass themselves.

September was when the Open Heart Band began trying human life on for size. School. Hockey. Student elections. Games. Rehearsals. Jobs. Ridiculous disguises. The results were sometimes moving, sometimes baffling and frequently uproarious.
The characters were learning to become themselves, and the stories let them make mistakes without becoming the butt of a cruel joke. Paddy and Maddie brought comedy to the great work, Chorus learned that musical genius doesn’t exempt anyone from friendship, and Romeo discovered that he was often captain of a very unpredictable crew.
These illustrations come from the original September articles and our preserved visual canon. Seven complete original trilogies are now published here as illustrated WordPress stories, preserving their full dialogue and scenes. The links below lead to their new WordPress homes. The Blue Trilogy and Dangerous Waters are retained in the original backup and await separate editorial review before public release. The captions and introductions here are editorial guides, not substitutions for their full texts.
The September trilogies
1. The Sports Trilogy — Holo-Hockey

Paddy wants the captain’s C, the others are not convinced, and hockey becomes an unexpectedly useful lesson in leadership, loyalty, and how not to turn a friendly game into a personal crusade.
2. The Glee Club Trilogy

Chorus becomes an enthusiastic director with a vision for everybody, and quickly discovers that her friends have their own opinions about being directed. Songs, egos, friendship and a lovely lesson in creative freedom.
3. The Student Council Trilogy

Maddie runs for student council in a school simulation and confronts prejudice against androids. There are ridiculous campaigns and a serious question underneath: what does it mean to belong as an equal?
4. The Eighteens

After a role-playing adventure, the four discover that character scores don’t quite describe what makes a person brave, clever or kind. The lesson is serious; their debrief is anything but solemn.
5. The Life Force Trilogy

Paddy’s homemade device lets the friends experience one another’s roles. Technological optimism meets the awkward reality that other people are more complicated than they look.
6. The Jobs Trilogy

The band discovers the work that keeps a civilization running: cleaning, food, maintenance and all the small tasks usually invisible to people enjoying the results. Ordinary service becomes an adventure of its own.
7. Game Night Trilogy

Romeo doesn’t feel like running Spark RPG. Naturally the others decide that a more ordinary game night will be simple, relaxing and free of controversy. They are wrong.
Beyond the Seven Trilogies — Eight Recovered Originals
The September source inventory identifies fifteen works: seven complete trilogies, already published above, and eight further historical writings. All eight further works are now preserved as full-text original editions on WordPress. They are placed by subject rather than duplicated in this story library.
Origin and rescue: The Origins of Maddie and Paddy · Their Names · Escape from the Dempire · Original Open Heart Synthesis · The Overall Story Thus Far.
Palace, adventures and chronology: Meanwhile in the Dimperial Palace · The September Adventures of the Crew — Original Summary · Vitaverse Chronology.
The full original texts remain separate from modern character summaries. Older descriptions of events or appearances are preserved as history, while later confirmed canon governs new illustrations.
Interlude: the band gets very silly
Not everything in September needed three acts and a philosophical exegesis. Some of our favourite moments were small domestic comedy experiments in the band’s quarters—and these original pictures give the stories their proper faces.
Paddy Tries Being Patricia for a Day

A gloriously overcommitted disguise experiment, and a reminder that Paddy never does anything by halves.

Chorus Tries Stand-up Comedy

The Angelicus learns that a well-timed joke cannot be calculated quite like a navigation solution.

Maddie Gets Busted

One of the band’s comic experiments takes a wrong turn, to the delight of almost everyone except Maddie.

The Band Tries on Faces

The crew experiments with appearance, identity and a suspicious number of alternative looks. The chemistry is what survives every disguise.

Why these stories matter
The comedy is part of the education. The band has rescued one another from real danger, but ordinary life is full of lessons that no rescue mission teaches: losing gracefully, respecting a friend’s boundaries, being bad at something new, listening to criticism, asking for help, and occasionally just laughing at yourself.
The point is not that a Spark must become a model student, perfect athlete or flawless performer. The point is that a Spark can try, stumble, learn, and remain loved.

Editorial note: September’s stories include varying levels of humour and maturity. The Blue Trilogy and Dangerous Waters remain in the rescued archive for a separate editorial review before republication. No original dialogue or story text has been silently rewritten on this page.
