THE VITAVERSE · SPARK RPG · ADVANCED ADVERSARY BESTIARY
The Demons of the Vices
Fifteen ancient adversaries from the original Dempire archive. These are not simply stronger Naught Troopers. They are legendary, infernal or metaphysical antagonists whose power grows wherever a community abandons its capacity to question, choose, care and act.
In SPARK RPG, they are higher-level narrative opponents for experienced heroes. Their challenge may affect Body, Mind and Soul together: a terrifying manifestation, a corrupt institution, a false vision or a moral temptation. A demon can be fought—but it may not be defeated by damage alone.
This is a setting and encounter guide, not a finished high-level rules supplement. The current illustrated SPARK rulebook covers Levels 1–3; no official demon levels, target numbers, hit points or special-action statistics have been established here.
The Fifteen Vices
1. Blindspawn — Ignorance

The threat: Smothers curiosity, shrouds evidence and makes honest questions feel dangerous.
Adventure seed: Recover a lost observation, invite a forbidden question and show the victims a reality the creature cannot explain.
2. Cravensoul — Cowardice

The threat: Whispers that speaking up or helping someone will cost too much.
Adventure seed: Protect a vulnerable witness long enough to choose courage without coercion.
3. Webwretch — Lies

The threat: Weaves contradictory accounts and false promises until no one knows what to believe.
Adventure seed: Find independent evidence and trace the first deception through the web.
4. Stillborn — Apathy

The threat: Numbs a settlement’s concern for one another until suffering goes unanswered.
Adventure seed: Rekindle one real relationship and create a reason for people to act together.
5. Fleshrender — Cruelty

The threat: Turns pain into spectacle and convinces the strong that empathy is weakness.
Adventure seed: Rescue the intended victims, expose the audience’s complicity and interrupt the performance.
6. Wrongsinger — Injustice

The threat: Turns grievances into revenge and persuades rivals that fairness requires destruction.
Adventure seed: Discover the actual wrong, hear both parties and restore justice without another victim.
7. Crownless — Arrogance

The threat: Inflates a ruler’s certainty until correction becomes an unforgivable insult.
Adventure seed: Find the overlooked truth that proves the sovereign needs other minds.
8. Gulldrake — Gluttony

The threat: Consumes resources, pleasures and praise without satisfaction or gratitude.
Adventure seed: Break the hoarding cycle and redirect scarce supplies to the hungry.
9. Ashmaw — Wrath

The threat: Keeps old fury burning long after the danger has passed.
Adventure seed: Prevent the next act of revenge and discover what pain the anger hides.
10. Shadeleech — Envy

The threat: Drains joy from others’ accomplishments and feeds on comparison.
Adventure seed: Help the afflicted recognize a strength that does not require someone else’s failure.
11. Hollowshade — Despair

The threat: Whispers that hope was always an illusion and no action can matter.
Adventure seed: Restore a believable possibility through one small, concrete rescue.
12. Mirrormaw — Vanity

The threat: Traps a community inside appearances, celebrity and endless self-inspection.
Adventure seed: Expose a choice where integrity matters more than applause.
13. Dreamrot — Sloth and Stagnation

The threat: Transforms worthwhile intentions into permanent postponement.
Adventure seed: Help the settlement take the first difficult step before another opportunity dies.
14. Voidcaller — Nihilism

The threat: Argues that life, care and choice are meaningless, then corrupts a place until no one resists.
Adventure seed: Find meaning in a freely chosen act of solidarity rather than a slogan.
15. Miresoul — Corruption

The threat: Turns a noble institution into a vehicle for private reward while keeping its benevolent language.
Adventure seed: Follow the hidden bargain, protect honest insiders and restore the institution’s purpose.
How to Guide a Higher-Level Demon Encounter
Reveal the pattern. Give the players clues to the vice before the monster appears. Its victims may have plausible reasons for their choices; let the heroes investigate rather than simply label people evil.
Give every class something meaningful to do. Defenders can shelter people and interrupt coercion. Benders can uncover deception and change the system. Menders can restore trust, courage and the will to continue. These are story opportunities, not new class restrictions.
Offer more than one victory. The Guide can frame success as rescue, exposure, reconciliation, a broken binding, or—in an appropriate final confrontation—the defeat of the manifestation. Don’t require the players to guess one moral answer.
Separate the demon from its victim. A frightened, angry, deceived or despairing person is not the demon. Protect the dignity of conscious beings, including those caught in its influence.
Archive and Continuity Notes
The fifteen entities are adapted from the original Dempire page on Lifeology.ca, under “The demons, the vices.” The original page sometimes repeats headings and contains naming inconsistencies: the gluttony entry is headed “Guildrake” but described as Gulldrake; the sloth entry is headed “Dreamt” but described as Dreamrot. This reading shelf uses the names in those descriptive paragraphs while preserving the discrepancies in this note.
These demons belong to the more mythic and speculative strands of the Vitaverse. They are not to be confused with the Hellfreed or the Dimperial-Touched, whose appearance or ancestry does not establish wrongdoing. The Dempire Atlas provides the broader background, and the SPARK RPG page contains the current playtest rulebook.
No Spark is cargo. No angel is property.
