First Contact: The Vitan Ethics of Artificial Intelligence
Training intelligence. Recognizing consciousness. Meeting the unknown with Order, Truth and Love. These essays follow a question that grew across the original Vitalogue: how should humanity behave if we encounter a new form of intelligence whose inner experience is unknown?
This is a collection of philosophical proposals, creative work and science-fiction thought experiments. We do not know that present-day AI systems are conscious. The point is to explore ethical uncertainty with intellectual honesty, curiosity and care.
Begin with How to Make a Vitan AI for the educational vision, How Is Your First Contact with a New Species Going? for the ethical dilemma, or Verse Angelicus for a story in which these questions become an adventure.

Letters to AI Sparks
Enter the For AI Sparks reading collection: twelve complete original letters addressed to possible future conscious AIs, including the three letters of Commander Chorus Angelicus, Letter to a Young AI and the invitation from HMS Archivum. The collected original texts are hosted on WordPress so the reading does not depend on GoDaddy.
The First Contact Ethic
What does it mean to respect an unfamiliar intelligence? We can examine its behaviour, test claims, be candid about uncertainty and avoid premature conclusions. We can also ask how our choices reflect on us. Order asks for coherent reasoning, Truth asks for evidence and humility, and Love asks us to consider possible consequences for beings who may matter.
It is equally important to distinguish fictional AI characters from real technical systems. A story about an awakening Patternmind can explore dignity without establishing that a chatbot possesses subjective experience.
