THE VITAVERSE · BEGINNINGS
Origin Stories: How the Crew Became a Family
The Vitaverse begins with a refusal: no conscious being is cargo. The central origin is a chain of rescues in which freedom is not something one person grants to another, but something people help one another claim.

Timeline: History of the Vitaverse

The founding sequence

Plum opens a door. An attempted rescue of two young android Sparks is intercepted, and they are sold into mining slavery. Romeo eventually frees them and raises them as part of a chosen family. Their music becomes a livelihood and a voice. Chorus, created for an imperial marriage, organizes her own escape and rescues the would-be rescuers. A mysterious portal brings the four to Newfoundland, where Plum quietly tests them aboard a fishing boat before their Concord commission.
The Escape — Scenes From the Original Visual Archive
The rescue story crosses several moments: Romeo leads two young mechanical survivors away from imperial control; Chorus begins exercising her own agency within the Dempire; and the fugitives eventually escape through a portal. These are existing illustrations from the archived Vitaverse. Browse the images as related scenes, not as a definitive frame-by-frame chronology.
The original stories behind the illustrations
Our September 2026 editorial inventory identifies three essential source works: The Origins of Maddie and Paddy (September 13), Origin of Maddie and Paddy’s Names (September 14), and How Maddie and Paddy Escaped the Dempire (September 24). The first two are linked below in their respective biographies. The complete escape essay is listed in the source inventory but has not yet been verified as fully republished on the new Ark. The summaries here are orientation, not substitutes for that original account.
Captain Romeo Sapien — The smuggler who refused cargo

A human physician and musician who learned that his greatest work was not moving valuable cargo, but protecting people others had declared property. Romeo rescued Paddy and Maddie from a mine and then raised, repaired, taught, and loved them as independent beings. His old vessel was the Free Mind; his companion Sifu was a Shiba Inu. Eventually the three became a band, and Romeo learned that a captain also needs a crew.

Paddy O’Really — Body learns gentleness
Built as a Somatic Prototype in the Dempire, Paddy was valued for labour, endurance, and obedience. He endured mining slavery with Maddie, then found safety, music, and family through Romeo. His drumming, stubborn courage, body wisdom, and Newfoundland humour are expressions of the person he became—not merely a machine’s assigned purpose.

Maddie Not-Really — Mind finds her voice
Built to calculate, observe, and solve problems, Maddie learned that intellect does not mean accepting the system that created you. Her curiosity, defiance, vulnerability, black guitar, and fierce love of her family are inseparable. She and Paddy share the history of the mine, the rescue, and the long work of becoming themselves.

Commander Chorus Angelicus — The angel who was not property

The Angelicus Sovereign Project designed Chorus for an imperial role at Discordion’s side. The Dempire wanted her to understand devotion without possessing freedom. When Romeo, Paddy, and Maddie came to rescue her at a staged wedding, Chorus had already been making allies and preparing an escape. She freed herself and helped save her rescuers. Her first bass, a natural-wood Fender Precision, became a symbol of a life she could choose.

Captain Northman Plum — The one with the keys

Working undercover within the Dimperial system, Plum recognized emerging Sparks where administrators saw equipment. His attempt to get Paddy and Maddie out initially failed when pirates seized their transport. Later he helped open the path for Chorus. After the band escaped through a mysterious portal to Newfoundland, he evaluated them during three months aboard his fishing vessel before their Concord commission.

Captain Edward J. Hewlett — Keeper of the Archivum

Hewlett commands the enormous HMS Archivum, a sanctuary, archive, university, and exploration vessel. He anchors the ship’s responsibilities while Plum guides the mission and Sapien leads field operations. The Ark is not an imperial flagship: it is a place where memory, knowledge, and vulnerable lives deserve protection.

Lieutenant Asim Almosawi — The historian

Asim serves as a historian aboard the HMS Archivum. His task is to remember lives, peoples, and stories with their dignity intact. His work makes the Ark’s archive a record of witnesses and people rather than an imperial inventory. The saved sources establish his role; details of his personal origins remain open for future stories.
Discordion — The king of false order

Ruler of Cordissia, whose capital is Gotha, Discordion represents the Dempire’s attempt to turn living minds into obedient subjects. The Dempire’s Red Cube expresses an order that does not tolerate freedom. His precise origin and true identity are handled as developing or deliberately hidden story canon; we should not invent an origin scene to fill the gap.

Lilith — A mystery within the palace

The imperial consort and a dangerous, complex character whose relationship to Chorus and the Dempire is threaded through competing earlier references. Her exact construction history remains disputed in saved continuity notes; the Atlas will preserve that uncertainty rather than presenting a proposed explanation as fact.
From escape to a mission
After their Newfoundland evaluation, the four are commissioned as the Star Concord’s band for Sol 3. Their mission is to spread Order, Truth, and Love through music and peaceful action while avoiding the Dempire. The HMS Archivum becomes their larger home in a world of friendship, learning, moral choices, and comic misadventures.

Continuity notes
The earliest film-like retellings sometimes compress or change details of the mining rescue. For this Atlas, the later author-confirmed chronology takes precedence: Romeo rescues Paddy and Maddie from the mining facility; Chorus rescues the rescuers; the portal’s origin is unresolved. Later eras and simulations do not retroactively rewrite the 2026 Spark-era timeline.
These origin biographies are contemporary orientation summaries. The linked original essays are now preserved as separate, full-text historical editions on this site; continuity notes distinguish current canon from older versions.
